We have a custom aluminum 50’ sailboat designed for two people and occasional guests. In hindsight, this 36C would be close to ideal for our cruising boat at a fraction of what we paid. These are IDEAL!!!!

Got any more pics for that beauty? Is there a listing on Yachtworld?
I see some of these used to have teak decks - what a horror to maintain, much less remove and replace!

Hi! I will upload more shortly! It was a horror, getting the hundreds of screws out, cleaning the micro waffle dents of the deck surface- removing the adhesive! filling and fairing holes. We saved someone a huge headache! 1EF25045-91B3-4589-B9EB-E30D1B1A321D.jpeg

FWIW.... The Admiral and I can testify that this boat's oven turns out a tasty wild blackberry pie. (Met these folks while overnighting at a nearby dock. Very Friendly Vikings, and not at all like the rude stereotypes of ancient legend! )

Man the problem with beautiful boats like this is they make it so easy to forget I already have one...

Hah! I had the same response - starting looking on Yachtworld the get acquainted with this beautiful Ericson design. Started thinking, 'what if...' Then, my boat called out, "Hey, what am I? Chopped liver?" ... at least, that's what it sounded like.

I like the defense of the big cockpit. This was a big argument way back when, with people saying only the Westsail was safe because it had none. Gad how awful the Westsail footwell was.

The cushion fabric brings back memories, too. Every production boat of the era seemed to have that same zany horrible plaid, as if the bunks were covered in recycled potholders. Tastes change.

If there was one "simple dimension" I could change on my boat it would be trading some interior space for a larger cockpit. I have three boys and with the five in our family, I can't imagine bringing our family AND another family as guests. I would sort of like a J105, not because I want racier boat, just because it has a much large cockpit for the same LOA. Ever compromises in design.

Spice Packet looks beautiful. (I still have the Nancy-Reagan-sportcoat plaid bench upholstery too.)

Good luck with the sale. It's an interesting time to be a seller - economy is comparatively weak, but people have a lot more time on their hands to contemplate new hobbies, or upgraded leisure pursuits. I hope you find an easy buyer.

Best description of that plaid ever. That fabric was BUILT though. As we took our old backrests apart we discovered Nancy beneath a couple layers of foam. I’m sure it must have been the p.o’s of the 80’s when she was called ‘le Insouciance’ that would not have tolerated that plaid!

I've always imagined the new-boat purchase decision conversation went:

"Honey, I know you're not sure about it, but if you let me -uhh I mean us- get the boat, you can choose whatever fabric you want for the cushions. Would that be okay?"

Really bad timing-a difficult process without social distancing and yes people do have a lot of time to waste a lot of yours! We were hoping someone who knew something about boats would inquire. So far liveaboarders, and an aspirant.

I haven't had the 'pleasure' of being a boat seller yet, but I got the impression when I was the buyer that plenty of sellers had grown fed up with feeling like their time was wasted.

I suspect your boat has enough value to be interesting to a broker if it is in an easy-to-show location. Probably most of the reason people use brokers is to avoid the hassles of lookie-loo shoppers.

Good luck.

This may seem bad-mannered, but when selling stuff I gently grill the caller. I explain that I;m not a broker. That I am not part of the education process. "May I ask if this is the first Buick Electra you have looked at, sir? Shop around, and I;ll show it to you once you have experienced the marvelous Fluid Drive transmission."

It has been very useful , esp. with boats, to often decline to be a showroom. I need to hear that the caller has already done research and has good questions and specific interest. "Can I sail it around the world?" I'd probably hang up. This is either irritable vowel syndrome on my part, vacuum cleaner sales training (make sure they have a rug), or listening to brokers who know 90 per cent of showing boats is just waving their flag.

Spice Packet is a special deal waiting for a special buyer--who will come sure as a fish to a lure.

Would it be rude to ask point blank if they have the money? Someone asked us if ‘it’s’ a good liveaboard - and did we have a recent survey, because their marina requires it. okay...
