We have a 1980 30+ at Shoreby's Newport Harbor just east of downtown Cleveland. To you Ericson owners to the west, please start sending us your better weather. Urgh! Ken

Here at the very NW end of Lake Erie at the Ford Yacht Club on Grosse Ile, MI. ....What better weather?? :esad:

...We get one or two nice days but the water levels remain high and many docks are still underwater. Many boaters can't even install their dock posts and the electric has been turned off for safety reasons. This is an unusual spring to say the least!! Hang in there, it WILL get better WE HOPE! :)

Better Weather?

I can send you what we had on Sunday, 2.4" of snow and a wind straight off the lake that was measured at 50 mph gusting to 74. Did get to go sailing Monday, but today is windy again, sustained 25, although substantially above freezing! Oh, sailing in Duluth,MN. I had my boat in on April 24th (dodging ice chunks larger than the boat), but what can I say, I'm an optimist!

No thanks! Duluth??!! ...Heard summers in Duluth were confined to the first two weeks in July! ;-)))

This has been a tough, cold, wet and high water spring for a lot of us for sure! Hopefully we all WILL get some decent weather in short order.

Across the Trenton Channel

Still at Ford Yacht Club (Southern end of Grosse Ile, MI at NW tip of Lake Erie) with my '73 E32-II. ...Also, there are two E-38's, one E-27, one E-30 and one E-29 here as well. You'll also find one or two more Ericson owners at the Monroe Boat Club and I think another at North Cape in Toledo Beach Marina area.

Hopefully see out on the water!!!

Previous owner kept my E25+ at the Ford Yacht Club. I moved her to Humbug in Gibraltar a little over ten years ago. She took a lightning strike last August. Spent all winter rewiring. Launching Wednesday!

...Just a stones throw apart - literally. Hopefully, we will launch Monday but still have LOTS of projects to complete, including our complete re-wiring of ALL electrical as well. Our 32 was hit by lightning back in ‘90. Luckily only a few instruments bought the bullet. We decided to replace it while replacing bulkheads and plumbing and more.

Also, my son’s S2-7.9 took a hit on a race a couple years back and, like you, had to re-wire and replace everything. He was VERY lucky as the strike hit just in back of the boat, bounced to his OB motor, traveled to the tiller, through his arm (even though he let go of the tiller a split second before) while it also went through his stays/shrouds and even burned pin holes in his hi-tech foresail that had carbon fiber in it.

He was approaching the finish line so finished the race before sailing back and finally going to the ER for treatment. Thank goodness he didn’t have any permanent physical injury or damage.

We DO get our share of lightning around here for sure. ...Hope to see you on the water! Watch for “CaryOn” - that will be us!

Welcome!! It’s a great forum for all things Ericson, especially if you’re ever having a repair or replacement issue. Easy to get excellent advice on the how to or where to find many specialty items.

Lots of articles already exist in the archives as well. Glad you’ve come aboard!!!

Leon,

I'm at Whiskey Island. My new dockmate has an Ericson 27. I think we're the only 2 there. Where do you sail out of? I see a handful of Ericsons at Edgewater Yacht Club along the fence in the winter.

A Lake Erie rendezvous sounds fun.

Just bought a 1978 E27. It's at Jefferson Beach. My first sailboat and It's been a long time since I did much sailing so I'll be taking a few lessons while I clean her up, add a few bits of gear and find out what her name really is. My first sail with her will be early to mid August. You're welcome to come by, watch, and laugh.
