Did you have to recalibrate the compass at all? Are you still liking the setup? As you pointed out on you pedestal disassembly blog, the guard rail gets welded to the support. Mine's above the engine control module, so I have to remove the whole guard including disconnecting the wiring every time I have to access the pedestal guts. I'd like to fix it, but I want to make sure I fully understand what I'm getting into before disassembling again and buying parts.
Cannot speak for Christian's boat but on our similar helm setup the then-new plotter was selected specifically for having no effect on the compass. That was rare model with a friction catch for the little plastic chart-chip door, rather than a powerful permanent magnet like many others. Definitely something to bear in mind when shopping for a plotter unit.
