    I sold Queenie last Friday

Well it was a bittersweet drive home from the marina last Friday as I turned the keys to Queenie over to her new owner. You know that old saying about the second happiest day in the life of a boat owner is the day he sells her? It’s not necessarily true. Some of you might remember I almost sold...

placement of engine tach on E35-2

Our 35-2 didn’t have a tach. Maybe because it has an A-4 gas engine instead of a diesel. I put it on the forward wall of the cockpit on the port side next to the passageway, under the depth and knot meter. Easy to see and easy to install.

    Fuel Prices: Sailing v. Powerboating

In our Marina on the Snake River it’s mainly ski boats in the 20 t0 25 foot range. Just from observation the numbers of ski boats and jet skis is down I would say a third. The guy who runs the gas dock has an interesting observation. It used to be folks would have him fill their boats. Now most...

    a-4 hand crank

I think a 12V battery pack is a must have piece of equipment on any boat with a motor. Had a ski boat years ago with a new battery in it that went dead on the beach because of a bad cell. Lucked out and found someone with jumper cables so I was able to start it again. When I bought Queenie one...

    Starter Problem

FWIW I have the same problem with my Atomic 4 gas engine. No glow plug to worry about so I’ve always figured it was wrong sized wiring. Nothing like turning the key and getting…nothing. Eventually she always fires up. I’ve been thinking about putting a push button to the starter down at the...

    Boy Was That Fun

We had an interesting sail last Saturday and I thought I would pass it on as sort of a cautionary tale. Three sailing couples were sitting on the dock smokin and jokin when one of the participants (me) suggested that we ought to go out sailing. The wind was blowing around 10 knots with a little...

16 year old to sail around the world

http://www.zacsunderland.com/ This is a link to Zac Sunderlands web page. He leaves this Saturday (May 31) to sail around the world alone in his 36" Islander

    Dry Ice

Dry ice will really affect the flavor of vegetables and fruits. We cut into a cantaloupe that had been in an ice chest with dry ice and it was horrible. Kind of like eating carbonated water with some cantaloupe juice in it.

    Pull apart Cinnamon rolls

I found this recipe in a newspaper a while back and have had good luck with it. Firing up your oven in the morning is a good way to get the chill off the boat and you end up with a delicious treat to start the day with. I’ve also been impressed with how long this stays fresh tasting just sitting...

    batteries and A4

Steve I have the same boat with an A4 also. I currently have two 12 volt Costco batteries and I keep them charged with a Xantrex True charge plus battery charger. I plan on swapping them out this spring with two new ones because I think I have a dead cell in one of the batteries. I have always...

    35’ Head Cabinetry?

It will be this weekend before I can get out to the boat again but I’ll take more pics and post them Sunday or Monday. The PO upgraded the holding tank in a way that I think might be quite unique at least as far as I can tell from other posts. He placed the holding tank under the port side of...

    35’ Head Cabinetry?

Loren, I’m pretty sure the hand hold is original. There are two more on the wall behind the head and they do come in handy when heeled over or choppy conditions.

    35’ Head Cabinetry?

Here’s the sink on Queenie. Really a pretty useless sink in that it’s so shallow and tight in the head that we generally go to the sink in the galley to wash up or brush our teeth.

    E35II Companionway Hatch Rebuild

On Queenie there is quite a gap between the top board and the sliding hatch. I haven’t tried this yet but as I was reading this thread the thought popped into my head that a piece of that insulating foam tubing that is used on copper pipes slid over the top edge of the top board might do the...

    A flag of our own.

Heres a couple of pics of the flag on Queenie from this weekend. Here's a question for someone though. I fly the U.S. flag from the transom. Does proper flag etiquette alow for the Ericson flag to fly in a higher position?
