New sails - no 'local' sailmakers.

I think I pulled if off of a brochure. I'll try and attach it here.

New sails - no 'local' sailmakers.

When I needed new sails for my E31 in 2018 I used Mack Sails out of Stuart Florida. I had met them at both the Newport and Annapolis boat shows, and upon the recommendation of a friend. I was pleased with their price, quality and service.

E31 - Teach Me About Chainplates That Are Fiberglassed to the Hull.

David. The next time I am at the boat I will have to look on the inside to see what the packing plate arrangement is. I think it is just a flat plate not bonded to the hull. I don't think and of the standing rigging had to be changed, just adjusting the length using the turnbuckles. Don

E31 - Teach Me About Chainplates That Are Fiberglassed to the Hull.

David, On our '31 in 1999 or 2000 one of the chain plates failed at the deck level due to corrosion. The owner at the time decided to replace all of them with externally mounted chain plates attached to the hull. They were a combination of 1/8" and 1/4 inch titanium. The work was done by both...

Ericson Independence as the retirement boat?

One more thought: in looking at the pictures of the one in Lake Lanier, the oven looks very different from mine. Mine is an older Force 10 gimbaled oven/3 burner cooktop combo. The cooktop is located beneath a sliding/stowable part of the galley counter underneath the first port on the port...

Ericson Independence as the retirement boat?

I have a 1979 E31, hull #60 so the one that you are looking at is a later one, likely one of the last ones built by Ericson. This one is in very good shape. I think it a a great boat for 2 people. Lots of room below including good storage around the galley, comfortable cockpit and the pictures...

    Ericson 36C staysail rigging

Here re some pictures of rigging from an E31. Might be similar (sounds like it from Erik's description)

    Ericson 31 porthole screens

For mine I made a template of the inside opening of the port then cut bronze screen material a little oversized and force fit it into the opening. It's enough to hold it in place without dealing with a screen frame or taking the port apart. Every once in a while one pops out, and I just put it...

    Sad Ending- E36C

Yes, the engine was gone and much work had been done with a sawzall or grinder

    Sad Ending- E36C

While looking for spare parts found ERY36X49M77 at Captain Jim's Salvage in Portland. ME. Looks like it grounded/sank. If anyone need parts........

    Stainless polishing

Well if you want something with abrasive in it from the automotive area, polishing compound (slight abrasive) and rubbing compound (more) might work. I have had good luck with Barkeepers Friend Cleanser.

New Owner of an Ericson Independence 31

Sorry it took me so long to respond. We are on York, Maine which is south of Portland (on the NH border). I looked at the details on the chain plate work- it was done in the Fall of 2000 while the boat was in Maryland, and done in 2 steps. The replacement was performed first by Chesapeake...

New Owner of an Ericson Independence 31

Welcome! I own hull #60 located up in Southern Maine. My chain plates (titanium) were changed to external locations by a previous owner after a chain plate failure. We are a small group of owners due to small hull numbers but will help whenever we can. I sail mine as a sloop (w/o the staysail)...
