Galley sink hose replacement pointers - Ericson 32-3

The saga continues to unfold and I may slowly be achieving enlightenment. My new diagnosis, which I am fairly confident about, is that we are dealing with a slip joint extension pipe, inside the drain hose. The slip joint washer failed, allowing the pipe extension to drop away from the sink...

Galley sink hose replacement pointers - Ericson 32-3

Thanks for all the input. As I get a little deeper into this, it appears that the hose itself didn't break. Instead, there is a short section of metal pipe protruding from the top of the hose. It looks like this section broke away from the sink drain fitting, as a result maybe of...

Galley sink hose replacement pointers - Ericson 32-3

Thanks Loren. Fortunately the old hose is quite stiff so didn't fall over. Your comment about the level makes me think that the water currently in the hose is just the residual from when the seacock was open. So it will be a bit damp when I remove the hose, but assuming the seacock is fine I...

Galley sink hose replacement pointers - Ericson 32-3

I discovered that the galley sink hose on our Ericson 32-3 had separated at the top just below the sink drain connection. I'm starting on the replacement process, which is new to me. I'm assuming its pretty straightforward - close seacock, loosen hose clamps, remove old hose and replace...

    Ericson 32-3 Transmission Problems ZF10

I posted in 2010 re replacement of my transmission which was persistently slipping out of forward gear. Replacement unit was a Hurth ZF10, I believe a rebuild (my notes are unfortunately skimpy). The new unit has now developed the same problem and the recommendation is replacement. The yard...

Engine Running Temperature? Ericson 32 Universal

i have an Ericson 32-3 with a Universal 23HP. For several years after purchase it took a long time to heat up and never seemed to get up past 180 if that, but ran fine. I recently had an overheating and boil over issue due to coolant leakage, and now after repair the engine heats up quickly...

    Re-comissioning recommendations - Edmonds/Everett/Port Townsend

The old saw in these parts is that summer is July/August/September, or the alternative "summer starts on July 5" (literally true this year in Seattle). These are generally accurate predictions. There also tends to be less wind in the summer months, but we have always found good sailng days on...

    Re-comissioning recommendations - Edmonds/Everett/Port Townsend

Stan, We have hauled out our Ericson 32-3 at Sea Marine in Port Townsend, taking it north from Bainbridge Is rather than going over to Seattle. They are located in Pt Hudson marina. We have taken our boat and its predecessor up there for over 10 years, after having an unsatisfying experience...

    Move Engine to Repair Transmission?

I just starting having problems with our Hurth transmission on our 1989 Ericson 32-3 (popping out of gear at cruising RPM). Tranny fluid has gone to the lab, but looks like a rebuild is required. The mechanic says he'll need to loosen/remove rear engine mounts to lift engine a few inches to...

Racing Qs -- Slow Down Wind?

Thanks Thanks -- a veritable cornucopia of good ideas and very encouraging. On my budget I'll have to phase these in one at a time, but each item will make an appreciable difference. I would start with rig tune, then probably sails/pole and fitting, backstay, then prop. I'll confess these...

Racing Qs -- Slow Down Wind?

Thanks, this helpful. The standard J is 13.75 for the 32-3. I hadn't heard of Polars before. I started researching on this site and elsewhere. Can you give me a nutshell of how these work? It looks like they tie in with electronic navigation aids. I use a hand-held GPS only. Simon s/v...

Racing Qs -- Slow Down Wind?

I just started racing our Ericson 32-3 (1989) and we have had some disappointing results, particularly down wind. Our flying sails PHRF is 177, NFS is 192. We have an asymmetrical cruising spinnaker with no pole. The handicapper commented that the sails were a little smaller than standard...

    Options for 2012 Rendez Vous

Open but its BCs turn I attended my first rendevous with our new to us Ericson 32-3 "Boadicea" in Port Townsend in 2011. PT and Poulsbo are definitely convenient for us but seems like it ought to be in Canada this year. We'll be up in the Gulf Islands and further north in mid August.
