    Stay Sail on the E35-2

When we bought Sea Quest, we discovered in the paperwork the drawings for the fabrication of the staysail rig and hardware, and the drawings for the fabrication of the vertical exhaust riser. I'd be happy to copy either or both for anyone interested. Howard Keiper Berkeley

    E-35-2 mast wires?

There is only one way to rewire the mast....and it must be removed. The old wires run through a hole in the step and down the compression post and adjacent to it to the bilge. They are usually covered by facia so you can't see the conductors. The hole will easily accommodate enough wires to...

    Galley Maid alcohol stove conversion

Well, let me say that I did the conversion to the 'high heat' or wharever it's called back in 1984 , or so. It was a very good thing to do, although my wife never did like it. I think she was, by then already enamored of the LPG / propane. Anyway, it was a very , very neat install. Although the...

Spin the bucket? (Reverse for Sailing?)

I've got an Atomic-4 (direct drive)...I don't think it matters one iota whether it's in fwd or rev. ?? Howard keiper

Spin the bucket? (Reverse for Sailing?)

OK, I subscribe to the 'locked in gear' theory, but what makes reverse so special? If the tranny locks at all (as mine does), why shouldn't I just leave it in fwd? Howard Keiper

    Speaking of Wheel Pilots

I admit to being to being thick...I have difficulty seeing how this whole 'quadrant steering' thing works at all if one doesn't remove the wheel when the pilot is engaged. It seems to me that the mechanics aren't much different than when steering a normally wheel steered boat with a tiller say...

    Wheel Pilot Install

Please tell me more about the 'HEADING SENSOR" needing to be mounted thwartships. Did you mean the compass? hk

    e35-II Bow Chain Plate

Good for you that you didn't lose your rig. I discovered a crack in Sea Quest's stemhead fitting and had a replacement made. As far as stainless fabrication is concerned, this is a very simple operation for any good fabricator...in this case, Svendsen's, in Alameda.

    Removing Rust Stains From Fiberglass

If you think the loaves and fishes was a reasonable miracle, wait 'till you see what FSR does to rust on the hull (or mot other plastics including Dacron). Always use the gell, though, never,NEVER the spray bottle. Apply the gell with an aptly named 'acid brush' which you have trimmed the...

Radar mount: Questus Backstay or Garhauer pole?

The Questus deviceis not the issue for me...it's been 100% functional for 10 yrs or so, mo maintenance or problems of any kind. But, as I said, there isn't any substitute for height. My current mount puts the radome about 12' off the surface of the water and that diminishes with heel; and the...

Radar mount: Questus Backstay or Garhauer pole?

I've got the Questus. As Questuses go, it's doing what it's supposed to. But if I had to do the install over again I'd go for a mast mount somewhere about the height of the 1st spreader (E-35 II, about 25' ?). There's just no satisfactory work around for height. Howard Keiper Berkeley

    Battery switch

Hi Keith... Your battery scheme is a good one. I often use a dual output charger using just one output to the house bank so that all the available current from the charger goes there, and let the echo-charger take care of the start battery. I like the 2nd of your switch selections. Either will...

Hatch, butt joint or dovetail ?

My E-35 II has the original box frame hatches and, over the years, I've sanded the wood away to such an extent that there was a very unsightly lip where the plexiglas overlaps the frame. So, I thought that it would do nicely to add teak rather than take it away. I bought 1/16th" teak vaneer...

    Very interested in a 1971 E35 ll

I started to have the same problem in Sea Quest and only found it by taking those facia panels off.The problem hadn't progressed very far though or for very long so I was able to stabilize the wood with Git-Rot, then glass the whole area. Anyway, I still check both sides of the stbd bulkhead...
