Got it this far...[Fuel Tank Removal, E38]

Hey Ralph—- mine popped right out. Something underneath bonding it I’ll bet. If you look at my pics, there’s not much to that bulkhead between the batteries and the tank. I’ll bet you’d gain a lot of purchase if that wasn’t there. Doug

…..seems obvious, but make sure tank as empty as you can get it. Very light and easy to pull out. Would have been a bear otherwise Doug

Got it this far...[Fuel Tank Removal, E38]

Hi I took tank out of my 85 38 a couple years ago due to a small leak from diesel bug. After cutting away Q berth baseboard and exposing tank it came out easily It was also easily manipulated from there to stand on end in galley. It will not fit through companion way. We took about a 5 ish...

Diesel Bug? [and E38 Fuel Tank Removal]

supposedly there’s a fungus or algae that can grow in your tank. I’m not sure if it’s actually in fuel or water at bottom but apparently enjoys the environment. I’ve heard about it in av-gas or jet a from my flying days as well as marine and other diesel situations. I’ve heard it referred to as...

    Buoy, what a mistake!

Yes Craig—-beer good and needed. Along with posts here— which I greatly appreciate— I’ve been reaching out to others as well. I am convinced the midline float—-used and required by DNR to protect bottom and prevent bottom entanglement was a central actor in this drama. It was routinely present...

    Buoy, what a mistake!

Our pennant line has a mast buoy at distal end to easily pick up. Buoy end of line has stainless eye which I put in a shackle at top of buoy. Loose end has soft eye which worked well with cleat. Would not be room for another unless I used another shackle or two soft ends at buoy. Two of anything...

    Buoy, what a mistake!

We were on a “morning nature walk” when the call came from coast guard. Didn’t answer. Thought it was a solicitor. Then fire dept. i took call on speaker. I looked at my wife and said —tell me we aren’t awake yet and this is a bad dream. Pale faced, she shook no. Btw—-put your emergency...

    Buoy, what a mistake!

Been through that. Bottom surveyed by divers for veggies, critters and bottom times 3! Helix unable due to sediment. DNR —-and feds and county and state FW gave exemption for concrete slab

    Buoy, what a mistake!

-sure, who knows what things looked like below. maybe was all twisted up and my recent situation was all there was left. It does have midline float which was routinely on surface at low tide. Never lost site of main ball at high tide. Buoy installed last November and never used until now. Lots...

    Buoy, what a mistake!

From description —boat was listing heavy to Stanford bow. They could feel weight under tow and when confronted with oncoming freighter they cut. Buoy vanished. Boat recoiled

    Buoy, what a mistake!

....I’m really wondering about all this. Even with a super high tide, if I had 8-10 ft off boat to buoy and there was say 1.5 times rode of max depth under the water—then how could this have happened without it really have twisted horribly in one night (calm winds) and/or suboptimal chain...
