Ken a really good post! I take it that you are masthead rigged, that the forestay and the foresail go all the way to the top of the mast. I have a question: I think from the post that you climb the mast using 3 halyards. Is that correct?
With my M18 at 3000 rpm and the 2 bladed prop I got 2 hrs per US gallon. With the 3 bladed prop I am getting about 1.8 hrs per gallon. Thus with a 20 US gallon tank (aluminum by the way) I could get 36-40 hrs, but as Loren said above in any sea state at all I would likely draw air well before...
Second Star is hull # 504 laid up in 1981. At some point it was retro fitted with a M18 Universal 15 HP diesel, which this forum will tell you is also a Kubota tractor engine (for much cheaper parts than Universal)
I have a 28+ as well. My fuel point is aft, on the port outboard side of the cockpit combing, about 2 ft forward of the port side air scoop. It is a chrome screw-in plate about 1.5 inches in diameter From inside the lazerette you can follow the hose down and over to the fuel tank on the...
As a follow-up to my previous ref - using a prussic loop on the mast, I tried a two wrap prussic knot with 5/8 3 strand nylon directly on the mast. No lines were captured between the prussic and the mast. I stood with my foot in the loop and jumped up and down numerous times and it didn't slip...
I have been following this discussion with great interest as I am due up the mast over the winter for some light and wind instrument issues. Being a 28+ the forestay attaches about 8 ft short of the masthead so using the foresail halyard is a non starter. There is only one line that goes up the...
It is likely the anti syphon vent for the water lift muffler, but the arrangement seems odd. My vent exits out the stern about 1 ft above the exhaust so that air can be drawn in once the engine and the pump, stop. With it exiting via the exhaust my fear is that the vent would draw water and...
On my E28+ the fuel fill is on the combing of the cockpit nearly vertical and out of the way. The plumbers plug would be OK there, especially with the bolt trimmed shorter and peened over so the wing nut does not come off. I may get one in case I drop a standard plug into the drink.
I replaced the drain hose etc in my 28+ after the presentation by the owner of the Port Angeles boat that sank at our PNW Rendezvous. His issue was my issue too upon inspection!
I would tend to replace the whole assembly except the thru hull valve. Replacing just the washer would work but the...
This looks the same as my 28+ M18 arrangement. There is a very tiny space between the nut and the tube but by improvising various wire tools I managed to get the old out. The new 1/8 in flax for the 3/4 in shaft has to be inserted and set, by running the nut all the way on, for each piece of...
You might be able to get them re-plated at a chrome plating facility. A local auto customizing shop could give you a lead on a plating shop. Or a collector car or hot rod club.
