E29 battery and starter cables?

Hello,

Has anybody replaced the battery cables that run to the engine on an E29 - ground and starter? Any idea of the length needed?

I have no direct knowledge but would suggest you measure your exact set up. Most older boats like ours have been through at least a few PO modifications so are not original specs. whether it's yours or theirs. That copper is pretty pricey too so you would want to get it right the first time

Dave's advice is golden IMHO. Also plan and scope out the wiring routing. Over the years I have changed some of our boat's routing of wiring, DC and AC cables, and plumbing, to both shorten some runs, and make others more logical for trouble shooting in the future.

The factory was building out systems on a production basis as interior modules and parts were being installed, and trying to control labor $, and sometimes this resulted in undesirable choices way out in the long run. You can do your research and tap into the longer-term and curated knowledge base here and on some other boating sites.

The E29 originally had one battery behind the engine in a fiberglass box under the bunk.
When I converted to a yanmar GM20f, we moved the batteries to the forward area of the lazarette, and we went with two type 27s.

Also, you can buy on line such battery cables in your size, precut to length and with the proper fittings. That can be cheaper and easier than stock stuff on a shelf.
