I would really appreciate it if someone could give me a rundown on the procedure for adjusting the A4 transmission. I think reverse may be interfering with the propeller shaft when I am in forward and that this can be adjusted out.
Hi,
I am trying to ensure that I am doing all the maintenance needed to maintain my Universal 5416 diesel engine. The engine has 875 hours on it, but it was rebuilt at about 250 hours due to a major overheating by a previous owner. I have had it since 570 hours, and have been religious...
I'm pulling the mast once I put her back in the water and will be replacing the rigging as well as a host of other things. My question is the specks call for the mast to go aft 6". I'll drop a plum bob to see where she's at now, but my reason for asking is I suspect that she's raked more than 6"...
Capt Ron's thread on modern navigation got me thinking about this again.
Anyone have any enlightening thoughts on calibrating the Fluxgate compass in the ST4000? Mine shows readings about 30 degrees off from the GPS and steering compass. I have tried a couple of times to swing the compass...
I will be installing a backstay adjuster to my E-27. I have a split backstay
and a rollerfurler. By how much should I loosen the foward shroud to accomodate the mast bend?
Thanks, Chris
Hi folks. We have had our "87 E32-3 since 2/00 and have enjoyed it very much. I've noticed that while sailing in 15k or so that the steering seems to "tighten up" when heeled over 20+ degrees or so. The auto helm 3000 belt starts to slip as well. At the dock the steerig is fine. I haven't...
I tightened the cables at the quadrant because there seemed to be a little slack. However when sailing in fairly heavy weather (with too much sail resulting in strong weather helm) a lot of force was required to keep the boat on the desired course. I'm guessing that the bearings are bad in...
My newly acquired 1970 Ericson 26 has an inboard tiller. There's a small amount of play, which I can live with. However, the tiller is offcenter to starboard about five degrees! Does anyone know how this can be adjusted? There are three set screws in the shaft head, a collar the same diameter as...
Has anyone had any experience with mechanical backstay adjusters on later model Ericsons? We have an '87 E34 with a new main (1 season) and a new head sail coming in a few weeks to be fitted to the existing Harken II roller furling. I'd like to be able to bend the ast a bit to take up slack...
Incorrect fuel tank gauges seems to be common problem. My 1987 E34 tank is supposed to hold 30 gallons. When I fill up the gauge will move only slightly until I crank up and then it moves begrudgingly to close to full but not quite. I use 11 gallons and the gauge shows slightly less than half...
