backstay adjuster

Greetings! I'm new to the forum, a first time boat owner (although long time sailor) and have just purchased an '81 25+. It's been a while since she was well loved so I'm finding a few things needing some fixing. I have a split backstay and my adjuster system seems to be missing the tensioner...

Does anyone know how to inspect and maintain these backstay adjusters which seem to have been pretty popular on 1970s Ericsons? Also... are they safe or is it something I should consider removing?

Hi, wondering if anyone has installed a Sailtec hydraulic backstay adjuster on their E38 and if so which model did you go with? Thanks, David

I'm not sure how the tiller-equipped E27s have it, but the backstay on my (wheel equipped) E27 splits into two cables about 8 feet from the transom and they terminates opposite of each other on the corners of the transom. There's a backstay adjuster that consists of two pulleys a fixed width...
