Now that the mess is cleaned up and I stopped shaking, I thought I'd make this cautionary posting about a fire I had on board our E-32 III yesterday. I went to the boat that morning to refinishing the wood transom cap after I removed all the old varnish. (Another story maybe worth another...
I need some advice from any of you that have or are presently living aboard with dogs. My wife and I will be moving aboard our newly acquired 35-2 in a few weeks. Everything has gone as planed, sold the house and all the other meaningless treasures one aquires over time. However we still have...
We are planning a two week sailing trip on our E30+ to an area with less services, so I'm doing lots of prep work and some risk management to ensure the trip goes as well as possible. I normally don't carry our oil pump on board, as it's a bit bulky and potentially a bit messy if it tips on...
The question about books for cruising BC not too long ago, prompted this little idea. How about an index of books for the 'compleat' cruising library?
I'll lead off the discussion by suggesting the following (not in any particular order)
Chapman's
Ship Captain’s Medical Guide
Navigation...
My wife and I are "cat people". Some are "dog people" and some "cat people" and we all have our reasons. But you can't help but notice that most pets on board are dogs. We just lost one of our two cats to cancer about a month ago and she was my wife's favorite one. When we went to the boat...
Hello VIkings
A day of sanding with 80 to 100 then finally 220 grit. The wood is finally as smooth as it is going to get.
I spoke with a buddy of mine ,who refinishes boats for a living, as to what to do with the various screw holes left from the PO. Simple answer: fix them!!5/16 bungs should...
Hello all vikings
I thought I would share my cockpit side board refinishing project with the list. After not having an ongoing boat project for some time I decided to tackle the refinishing of cockpit boards project.
#1 Remove the boards from the boat. I did not have the camera at the boat...
For the first time this winter I have stored my batteries on board at 44*N latitude, about forty miles south of the Canadian border. Today I drove up to take a look at the boat, check the stands, and charge the batteries.
I had switched off both banks and separated the paralleled house bank on...
This is the second time I have noticed this. I just logged on the site and checked out a few posts. Then I see that the Cruising & Racing section the "Where do you keep your boat" poll indicates that the last post was made by me, today. I did not even open this thread.... How does this...
Hey all,
I'm about to take the plunge!
A 1975 E27!
My wife would really like to bring our Newfoundland (dog) along for sails in the future
Does anyone have a good way of getting a 90lb. dog back aboard after a swim?
Also, as the companion way has fairly steep steps, I'm thinking I...
I'd like to take off my teak side board thats in the cockpit so I can repair a split in the wood and refinish it indoors (1976 32-2).
Besides drilling out the plugs and removing the screws, what issues am I going to run into? Would I be better off to try and clamp it in place then to remove...
This started out as a simple question, but when I started writing it more issues came up...
My Ericson has a Pioneer radio cd player apparently an automotive version -- it came with the boat. When sailing, the waves and the wind is fine. But at anchor/dock, its nice to have a little...
Hi, people,
I decided to dip into the pool of a shared wisdom in regards of a sailing with babies and toddlers on board. I've read quite a bit on it in magazines and on Sailnet, but may be someone here can share the knowledge and experience, and, for the heck of it, may be even blue prints...
Hi,
My Ericson 26 sleeps 4. But for day cruising trips where people just sit around, it seems like I can take take more people on board. Does anyone know if there is a limit beyond which the boat will sink or flip over or pose other risks?
Robert
Hello everyone. I'm looking for a boat here in California. I'm Scot King, son of Bruce King, designer for Ericson Yachts.
This is a cool board! Thanks for putting this up. Although my dad's company went out of business many years back, it's great to see people still enjoying their...
