Good morning to all!
So, this odd year continues. Much wind and rain plus the cold is coming 2+ months early!!!
So I must think of heating the cabin to take the chill off.
I’m all electric so no engine to run to take the chills away.
Last two seasons I used a Mister Heater Buddy. Never...
I am going to pull the heat exchanger on my M-18 engine this weekend to inspect and clean. Will a mild muratic acid wash necessitate repainting? Also, I believe there is a rubber gasket in one or both ends; can these be reused or should they be replaced? Where should I look for them?
The h/e...
Can anyone advise what kind of service/frequency the heat exchanger requires in a universal 5416 16 hp freshwater cooled diesel engine. The engine is working fine, not overheating or causing any problems, but I want to ensure it keeps working.
Our heat exchanger was leaking, so we replaced...
Greetings to all, Ran across this source for heat exchangers and Hurth trans. parts. Good service, friendly staff, very good prices. No connection, just a satisfied customer. Hale Marine, Halemarine.com. They've been around for a long time.
Best,
Frank
I am loosing coolant and overheating, no visable signs of loss and fresh h2o exhaust not showing to be exhausting coolant.
Any suggestions of what is happening?
Thanks:confused:
New problems altenator shows 17/19 volts output and is exxxcisivley hot to touch new rebuild //had it tested and is 14.9 on the meter so///the voltage regulator is or appears to be electronic and associated with the converter system so i ve checked the fuses and all show good///appears to be an...
Does anyone know for sure which heat exchanger from Seakamp can be used to replace the one on my Universal M25-XP? The interweb provide conflicting advise. Seakamp wants a picture of it. Of course it's 5 hour round trip to where my 1989 Ericson 35' Mark 3 lives so will not have a photo before...
After reading the thread on the engine zinc being located in the heat exchanger, I decided to look at mine as I had not done it in the two years I have had the boat.....and then the trouble began.
I had just finished running the engine and noticed for the first time a drip coming from the raw...
When we bought this boat two years ago one of the things on my list was to remove and clean the heat exchanger (HX from here on). Now that my bell housing is cracked  I had a good opportunity to attack this and take photos of the process.
HX's are one of those things that many boaters find...
I posted this elsewhere but thought you guys might like it too with all the Universal engines in Ericson's...

I recently read about another boat that had a zinc in the heat echanger. It was at or part of the drain plug. Does anyone know if a 1981 Ericson 38 has a zinc in it's heat exchanger? It would save me some time and effort of going and looking.
Thanks.
Ref-Ericson32-3 I was removing the zinc in my heat exchanger when the bronze cap broke loose from the zinc itself. Since the zinc is located at the bottom of the exchanger, I do not understand why the zinc did not fall out. The zinc appears to be pretty well stuck in the drain hole. I screwed...
With the newer style heat exchanger (3 inch diameter) installed on my m25 there is not enough clearance to remove the rigid transmission oil dipstick for checking fluid level. The heat exchanger has to be removed to get the dipstick out. So far the solution I have come up with is to take out...
Recently our heat exchanger has been showing some problem signs. Significant corrosion showing around the end caps, a very slight leak, and the last two times out, progressively more steam emanating from the exhaust, were all observed. The temp remained OK, though. So I crawled in and extracted...
I am looking to replace the older heat exchanger on my 5432. I know there is a replacement/upgrade to a 3" unit from the newer M40 model but I am wondering if a heat exchanger from an M50 will fit? According to my research the M40 unit is 3"x13" and the M50 unit is 3"x17". I can check the...
Has anyone attempted to build a heat riser/muffler completely out of black pipe and fittings?
It should work out to be about $125 as opposed to the 385.00 that PSC wants. I'm not opposed to ordering parts from PSC but that's a little steep for some piping.
If I have this figured out...
My 1987 Universal MK 12 engine runs fine, and the heat exchanger appears to be doing its job. Recently, however, I decided to change the zinc in the exchanger. I do not know when it was last changed. When I took it out, there was no zinc left, only the threaded part. When I tried to replace...
I have a 1985 Ericson 32 with a Universal diesel. The brochure says it is fresh water cooled. The previous owner didn't keep a maintenance manual but someone said I need to change the zincs in the heat exchanger. Do I have zincs in the heat exchanger that need replacing? If so, where?
Thanks!
The heat exchanger on our Universal diesel has broken free from its moorings. Was secured by two clips bolted to the back of the engine block and soldered to the copper shell of the exchanger. The clips have broken free from the heat exchanger.
Has anyone had this fixed? Is this a job for...
My boat came with an alcohol stove, and it was surrounded by a thin sheet of stainless steel.
Is it necessary to leave it in there for a propane stove, or is it just there to catch burning dripping alcohol before it sets fire to the plywood?

Has anyone tried sending their raw water heat exchanger to a radiator shop to have it cleaned? I know its made of copper so I would guess a radiator repair shop could do a good job of cleaning just did not know if anyone ever tried...
Thanks
Does anyone have any experience installing an Espar (Eberspacher) forced air diesel heater on their Ericson. We have purchased a D5L model on the used market and will be fitting it into our E35 II after the dealer has completed a bench test and service of the unit. My specific problem is how to...
Forgive me if this is a re-hash, but I didn't see the subject in recent threads. After investigating the usual suspects for overheating at RPM above 2,200, I investigated Torrensen Marine for a replacement heat exchanger as a back-up plan to cleaning out the original one on my 1986 32'. There...
I hope all the SoCal Ericsons got out this weekend. You couldn't ask for better sailing weather. We went out both days and let the jenny out and just shifted into cruise mode while the boat sailed herself a long way offshore. I could have kept going to Hawaii...
Does anyone have installation recommendations for adding A/C compressor unit and ductwork to a 1989 Ericson 38? I am considering doing the work myself to reduce cost and would like to get some ideas on where and how it has been installed on other 38s.
thanks
