34-2 Mystery Hose ID help

If it's uphill from aft, is it possible it comes from your hot water tank (if you have one)?

That looks like a 'food grade' hose to me (I have those under my galley sink; actually, one runs from my (E34-2) refrigerator to the (broken) pump that lets me pump the icebox out into the galley sink. Anyway, it has the look of something more for potable water than like a head hose, and I can't imagine why a holding tank vent would be routed further into the boat.

I have not solved the mystery hose puzzle, but now I have a mystery leak puzzle. Why would the shower sump located between the head door and the galley sink fill with water when the boat has not been used at all? Ericson 34-2. Must be from rainwater but I can’t find any obvious leaks in the head area. I thought the shower sump was completely isolated and limited to draining the head area but maybe there is a connection to other parts of the bilge “upstream?” Any ideas?

I can only speak for how it works on my 35-3, but it's not isolated, and the shower drains into the main bilge chamber. Now, a previous owner re-did the bilge pumps - replacing the diaphragm system with a centrifugal one - so I'm not sure if the shower was originally isolated.

I’m not sure about the leak but I took some photos. On my boat the mystery hose disappears into the insulation behind the ice box .

It’s higher than the keel step.
maybe the pump check valve failed ?

On the 34-2 there is a separate sump so shampoo etc doesn’t get to the bilge.

As phildoggonit says this sump is a lot higher than the main bilge where the mast empties.

It’s a diaphragm pump so shouldn’t back flow but I will check that, good thinking. It does seem to correspond with rain though. I know I have some leaks into the aft cockpit locker but those go under the fuel tank and into the main bilge. Guess I am going to have to have someone spray the heck out of the boat while I contort myself with a flashlight and paper towels into awkward spaces! I’m really hoping it’s not the T track.

Yeah, I would have preferred that. A certain someone I share the boat with has long hair that didn't play nice with the previous bilge pump. I've rectified that. And no, not by making her shave her head.

When I bought my boat the check valve in the exit hose from the shower sump was entirely blocked by long black hair and soap.

On the other hand, his wife showered aboard, which alas is never gonna happen to me.

On land, we have a slop sink in the basement that the washing machine drains into. The discharge hose requires that a mesh hose filter be attached to catch lint and the metric tons of hair that our Golden Retrievers produce. Well, those do double duty now. I rectified the boat shower situation by fastening one of those filters to the shower drainage hose. The bilge pump was very appreciative.

On our 34-2 we have a second water tank under the settee just forward of the nav station. That hose could possibly be that tanks vent hose. It could also be the drain hose for the starboard ice box that connects to the foot pump under the galley sink.
