A loss in the community

Nigel Barron

Notorious Iconoclast
I am sure that any of you that read 48 North will recognize the name Kelly O'Neil... She is usually responsible for the bulk of the photographs in the magazine. As someone that races, I would always look for her out on the water, and wave, hoping for that great shot.

It is with great regret that I pass on the information that Kelly passed away around noon today. Not myself good with words, I shall just copy an email that I got from another good sailing friend in Seattle, Cathy Picha.

"I am sure many of you have heard by now that Kelly O'Neil died today around noon._ I am so glad I had the chance to know her._ She was one incredible women. I am sure she has found a grand place in heaven with her brother Willy, who died in a hunting accident about 6 weeks ago,_and her constant companion Whidbey, who was put down by the vet last Tuesday after suffering a bad case of pneumonia.
_
Please keep her_fine husband, Gerry and her 9 year old son, Louie in your thoughts and prayers.
_
Our friends are so important._ This reminds me of how fragile we all are too!"
