I have an Autohelm ST400+ wheelpilot on my E-32. Installed and calibrated per the owner's manual, seems to work ok, but I think that it could be improved.

Does anyone know if there are publications or websites which discuss: Theory of operation. Strategies for optimization.

Can tracking ability be improved by adding a rudder position sensor?

Does anyone have experience with the "Vane" function, how well does that work? Is the windvane feature worthwhile?

Is it common to need to recalibrate rudder gain for various boat speeds or wind speeds or angles of heel?
