Avalon April 29th - May 1st.

Uff Da (E32) is heading over to Catalina on Saturday, April 29th and returning on Sunday, May 1st. We normally go over on Friday but, alas, some of my crew have to work on Friday (an ugly 4 letter word). Our preference at this time of year is Avalon but I'm concerned about the availability of a mooring if I can't get there until Saturday afternoon (around 1700). Can I have reasonable expectations of getting a mooring?

The alternative is to spend Saturday evening at Two Harbors then sail on down to Avalon on Sunday. Is there a good chance of getting a mooring for Sunday?

Hi. I don't think you will have a problem getting a mooring on Saturday. This time of year is pretty safe. I was there last weekend for Easter and there were still moorings available.

I second Jeanne's statement, I was there as well for Easter and it was wide open. Every year for the last four years I usually make my first Island trip of the season in late April and have always got a mooring at Avalon. Always keep a back up plan and be prepared to anchor. If they have nothing at Avalon, White's landing is just about 4 miles up the coast of the Island and they always have moorings and good anchoring. It is a bit of a Dinghy ride back to Avalon though. Things really start getting crowded closer to Memorial Day. Just my personal experience.
