Bye bye Jack Stands!

Early this Spring my son found a really good deal on a used heavy duty trailer capable of handling our E32 - II. It’s galvanized and has 6 wheels for beyond the weight of our boat.

(Ever since moving to Michigan we’ve used the cumbersome Jack Stands since I discarded my original cradle when buying the boat in Florida in’73. They are a great alternative but time consuming to set up not to mention getting heavier to handle in my old age and back problems.)

…A local welder is adding the necessary upright supports to custom fit to the hull and we should be ready to pull the boat in another week or so!

Once pulled and stored, I’ll post more photos.

Nice one, Kap. Are you able to store the boat near your home?
There is indoor heated storage within 2 miles of our boat club. With this trailer, my son could actually tow it over with just his F-150. (Not sure of the legal width restrictions though.)

Normally we store her right on the club property since there’s plenty of land and a travel lift. We just wanted to simplify the overall process and this trailer was too good a deal to pass up.

Make it look legal. If, your height is under 13 ft. 6 inches. Put DOT approved flags on all four corners. Get "Wide Load" banners for the rear of the trailer and the front of the truck and add a flashing light on the top of the truck cab. Use two, three-inch-wide straps to secure the boat to the trailer. I've been doing this for the last 15 years, travelling 15 miles each way and have been successful.

Thanks for your excellent tip! …So far, our plans are to simply store on boat club property.

The heated storage is only about two miles away and the roads are not ever busy at all.

My son stores his S2 - 7.9 plus a classic car and a storage trailer there already. Thoughts are to see about enlarging his group rate later on.
