I (and everybody else) took one look at his kayak-like hull design and thought, wait--for stability it relies on forward motion through the water. Yet he needs to sleep. Hmmmm.
It would seem he didn't have the usual 300-mile sea trial to see if stuff actually works. There's a reason why that's traditional.
