Coast Guard Works To Rescue Boats In Distress
(CBS) LONG BEACH, Calif. A three-masted tall ship with 40 people aboard has managed to re-enter Long Beach Harbor after taking on water about seven nautical miles from the coast.**The Coast Guard says pumps were placed on board the 130-foot American Pride, helping to alleviate the problem.**TV images showed children in life jackets on deck as emergency craft escorted the schooner into the Port of Long Beach.**The ship is operated by the nonprofit Children's Maritime Foundation of Yorba Linda. It was taking a group of 42 schoolchildren back from a weeklong trip to Santa Catalina Island.**Two smaller boats also made distress calls Friday after taking on water in the wind-stirred seas. The Coast Guard worked to escort those vessels shore Friday afternoon.

And right after that they towed a 35-37ft sailboat that was taking on water back from Catalina to Long Beach. It had its main still with it's cover still on and it's jib unfurled and tatered. I watched both from our Helicopter.
