depth sounders in hull consideration for 38

After having replaced the depthsounder twice over 2 years im getting a bit annoyed by the process. So im considering a In-hull instead. But im a bit worried about the the thickness of the hull. Does any of you have in-hull depthsounder instead of through-hull?? Or some good knowledge on the matter. I have an erricson 38.

My depthsounder (fathometer, fishfinder) is part of my Garmin 7" chartplotter, but the Airmar transducer works fine shooting though our solid fiberglass hull.
