Hey Al, did you have 'Shadow' for sale up near Lake Champlain? Came with a trailer too? I am interested in the backup motor too...

My A4 (1976) is starting easy and running smooth after several years of replacing ancillary systems (fuel, exhaust, water intake, . . .). Have factory spec compression in all four so no reason to rebuild. Can't see any reason to replace it. When it goes, I plan to replace with a rebuilt or newly built (since new A4 engine blocks are now available from Moyer).

With hundreds of thousands of gas powerboats on the water - recreational and commercial - I don't see a safety problem.

Of course it is always possible that natural gas, electric or fuel cells become available and cheap. Natural Gas is probably the most sensible fuel for a coastal or inshore auxiliary, if only it were distributed to marine filling stations.

I just converted a 7hp generator to nat gas/propane with a little nozzle extension you strap between the air intake and the carburetor, plus a regulator device that has a single screw adjustment on it.

It was very simple - I can see how it would work with an A4 also. Not much more complicated than installing electronic ignition.

Availability of fuel on the water notwithstanding, this is not a practical alternative to gasoline. Very poor range, very large fuel containers per hour of runtime.

The cabs in Seattle all run on propane (maybe it's nat gas) and it takes a cabbie all the way from the airport to downtown to finish complaining about how much he hates it.

The natgas generator is awesome for the generator however because we have a natgas pipe sticking out of the house with a limitless supply and no need for storage.
