Most of the boats I've seen have the engine mounted with the mounts in the same plane. The E31 is a small boat, so to keep from having the engine room taking up half the cabin, the mounts are offset.

The spec sheet for the QM and YM show the mounts in the same footprint, well the boat is different than the spec sheet.
After multiple measurements, two renditions of foam mock ups, and a delay from mother nature(ice storm), we modified the mount rails in the boat.

We kept the QM aft mounts that are modified, flipped upside down, and swapped right to left.

We tapped into the fuel tank vent to plumb the fuel return line. We used a flexible coupling between the prop shaft and engine. The length of the coupler was included in the design of the mount rails. For now, we kept the 1 ½" exhaust through hull. The electrical harness is plug and play. The "B" panel is mounted in a high density rigid poly ethylene trim panel. The steel mount angles are thru bolted on the vertical surface, and carrage bolts are used on the horizontal surface to attach the engine mounts. We replaced the heavy metal muffler with a smaller fiberglass water lift muffler, side in top out.

We plan on hauling out and changing our prop to a Campbell Sailor 13x9, and replacing the stuffing box. We still have to decide on an exhaust through hull to bring the entire exhaust up to 2".

Of course life gets in the way of the fun stuff.

The engine starts right up and the difference in vibration and noise is almost like night and day.

We are happy with the choice and got the "boat show" deal to boot.

We did all the work in the water and have about 50 hours into it, including driving around town looking for odds and ends.

We hope to do sea trials on Feb 27, or the weekend of the 3-4 of March.

Wow, that was a lot of work.

Its not a good sign, when you have to install a mast step next to the engine compartment :egrin:

New Prop to finish the project.

Campbell Sailor 13x9. The max WOT rpm is the engine max at 3600, dead on with a digital hand held tach on the crankshaft pulley.

We hauled out to change it, a buddy wanted to dive and do it, scary for me. I think being in the river does have a down side when doing jobs like this.

The rudder is off to measure for the shim to fix the rudder clunk this design eventually gets. Fixing the rudder play was almost worth the haul out.
