The time has come for my family to part with our much-loved sailboat. I'm just starting the process of assembling details for interested parties. We're the third owners having purchased the boat in 2014. I've been a budget sailor since my first purchase of a 1935 16ft. Skaneateles Comet. I've never purchased a boat that didn't need extensive work. The Comet was followed by a 19ft. Lippincott Lightning (wooden spars), a 1962 Star (wood), a 1952 25ft. Vataroy Amphibet (wood), a 1973 E-27, a 1980 E-28+ and finally my present 87' E-28/2.

I started restoration of the 80' E-28+ believing that I could control the refit costs in time and funds. I was wrong. About two years into that project a fellow forum member began advertising the 87'. I contacted them and we couldn't come to agreement on price. Time went by and the 87' was again up for sale but without a mast. The mast had snapped in half as a lower shroud had snapped during a late fall sail. I offered to sell the owner the mast I had from the 28+ or I could by the 87' from him at a much more attractive price. That's how I came into possession of the 87'. I had it hauled over from MA and transferred to the trailer I purchased and rebuilt for the 28+ which I personally hauled over from the Maine Maritime Academy. Prior to the arrival of the 87' I dismantled, cut up and disposed of the 28+ parts I couldn't salvage.

I adapted the 39ft. mast from the 28+ along with hinged mast base and all new rigging to work with the 28/2. I had the bottom blasted to remove about 1/8" thick layers of old paint. Applied three coats of InterProtect 2000E barrier along with three coats of bottom paint. Since then, many improvements have been made. A new rudder, a 40' Lefeill mast and Selden furler along with new rigging. The Universal M-12 was rebuilt in 2018 and I'm presently rebuilding a spare that came from an 86' E-28/2 crushed by the marina I use.

More details will come with more photos. Looking for $25,000 for the boat and trailer and all of the extras that come with it. This will be turnkey. Get in it and go sailing, stock the ice box and stay overnight somewhere.
