Hot Water Heater - but no hot water now

Hot water works on AC power - it is HOT!

So, it should work with the engine?
Well that definitely means it's wired correctly and the heating element is heating the water. Doesn't mean the engine coolant hose work was done properly. I'd take her out for a couple hours under power only. That should be ample enough time for the water to be heated by the engine. (Turn off the AC panel water heater the day before, and run the hot water for a little bit to flush it from the tank so as to not get a false positive result.)

I was surprised at the big chunks of stuff that came out during our coolant system flush. video in post #170 Presumably those had been knocking around the system for some time.
It's possible something has become stuck in the coolant loops of your water heater. That would explain the AC heating, but no/minimal heating from the engine. This might require hooking a submersible pump up to the water heater and flushing it.

So

Well, it works now.

The coolant bottle went from full to low 2 times after I burped the cooling system.
Aw, jeez, you know what? That's something I should have mentioned at the time, and completely blanked on. Might have saved you some concern. After installing the new heater, I had to top off the coolant a couple times as well. Sorry for the omission, but glad it's up and running properly.
