Hi, all,

any opinions on JRC radars, specifically on JRC 1000? Any experience to share?

They are very cheap, and this is one thing that is good. The rest is mistery... Cannot find any reviews. Looking for any data, including "a friend of a friend of my mate says..."

Thanks in advance,
Stan

JRC 1000

I have 2 of them. One on my Ericson 32-2. Have had it 4 years, mast mounted scanner, cockpit mounted display.

I love it. If anything could survive that exposure and use, it works for me. I had a very early unit, and beating up the coast of Catalina one afternoon, the scanner went out. I got the antenna down, and sent it back (thru West Marine) to their Seattle repair center. It had 490 hours of use, and was 7 months out of warranty, they fixed it for free. Said it was a stepper transformer that had been upgraded.

I bought a second one for my next boat.

The only minus so far is that the antenna has to be disassembled before being disconnected whenever it is installed / removed. Is cumbersome to work up there with the antenna upside down in your lap while disconnecting cable connectors.

I'd go for it.
