Keel-stepped mast, E34t

I am the new owner of a 1978 E34T, Charlie. I've got a few projects to work on, and I'm not sure if any action needs to be taken on the mast step. The saddle (?) appears to be barely sitting on one of the aluminum support brackets, shimmed, and isn't even attached at the aft end. I am interested in anyone's opinion about whether this should be rebuilt or not.
