Has anybody else come across these videos and the stories of this ship:

Draken Harald Harfagre

There are a lot of youtube videos featuring the ship. Quite impressive!

My friend Leif told me about them He has an Ericson 35. That would be Leif's Ericson (!)

Thanks!!
Hard to judge the actual speed but from the movement thru the water it seems like they are near-surfing.
Lots of physical labor to control the heavy yard and the sail. Wow.
Music was OK, but I was sort of expecting... Wagner ! :)

Yes, it is now the most common belief that these Viking ships were first to North America.

The speed seems to be quite good through the water and she can even manage a bit of close haul sailing which surprises me with the square sail. The "ride of the Valkyries" would seem appropriate but maybe not to the modern Norwegian taste.

I like this video which show some sail handling, hoisting, etc. I see that a primative winch and blocks are in use and I am doubtful that the Vikings had those amenities.
