Over the years we have had numerous owners come to us asking for assistance in obtaining a Certificate of Origin (COO) for their Ericson hull. Certificates of Origin are most commonly used in the importation of an object into another country; in order to establish the origin of it's source materials and to avoid having to pay large import duties or other associated fees. They work in concert with trade agreements signed between countries and with WHO trading guidelines and are often overlooked by most boatowners - until they try to take their boat into another country and have it registered there.

Since Ericson Yachts, Inc. is a defunct company, EY.o has teamed up with the Greater Irvine Chamber of Commerce (GICC) to provide a path for issuance of these documents. EY.o will apply for issuance of a COO with the GICC and the associated certificate will be entered into the SWIFTdox system which is commonly utilized by importers and customs services. You will also receive a digital and hard copy of the completed COO. There is a cost; currently about $85 at this writing which the owner will have to pay to EY.o (as we pay the cost up front).

To obtain a COO for your boat, please contact me and provide the following information:

  • Copy of the bill of sale for your boat (pdf)
  • HIN of your boat (should be on the bill of sale)
  • Location of the boat (harbor)
  • Any existing registration (pdf)
  • Location for the hard copy COO to be mailed to.
  • Photograph of the boat

We will then get back to you with any questions or issues, and will otherwise file for issuance on your behalf. Once accepted, we will forward an invoice to you, indicating the amount you owe.

If you have questions about this process or other associated concerns, please feel free to contact me directly or via the 'Contact Us' link below.
