Update from the yard:
A slight squeaky sound? If it is coming aft of the PSS, then the cutless bearing is the only thing touching the shaft back there, and many a squeak has been attributed to cultess bearings. I don't think I've heard of a PSS seal squealing, but certainly not out of the realms of possibility - but seems like you are thinking it is aft of that. As far as checking PSS compression, no, you shouldn't have to do that. We installed a Pro bellows and that is quite a bit stronger and stiffer than the original weaker rubber bellows. So once that is set, it should stay in spec for some time. Eventually it may need compressed further if water starts to sling or drip from the seal, I'm thinking in years here. Sometime props can "sing" and sound kind of like a squeak.
What you can do, and it's what we do when diagnosing a squeal, is get underway and get it squealing and then do your very best to isolate the noise and get as close as you can with your head to different sections of the running gear - over and in front of or aft of the prop/cutless area, the PSS and the transmission. You should be able to tell direction of the sound - hopefully!
The engine mounts were ordered through the local dealer, Cook engine - we gave them the engine info and they ordered the mounts, so they should be the correct mounts for that engine.
I looked at the notes of the mechanic that did the engine mounts and oil change, and he stated that he did add transmission oil while he was changing the engine oil and filter. His only additional note on that was the access to the transmission fill and dipstick was difficult.
I'll head back to the boat soon and follow several suggestions mentioned earlier....except the alignment at the coupling that John mentioned. It's a good suggestion and I did watch a few videos about alignment, but will likely ask for assistance from another experienced person in the club before I go there!
