Wierd one. The boat was replaced with a smaller sailboat, and the 'registration' swapped to the replacement.

The Sea Scouts facility is in a public area near Chase Park, meaning more public than a yacht club environment.

But how do you hide, or fence, a 30-foot yacht, which is too big for an ordinary trailer. 'Let's see, that boat must be around here somewhere. Have you looked under the couch"?'

Talk about conduct unbecoming of a yachtsman. The swap sounds like it could be an upgrade attempt by a liveaboard and/or someone heading south, but there are any number of possible scenarios. Fodder for a next novel perhaps?!
