Second Ericson purchased!

Picked up my second Ericson, 1981 381, this week in Monterey and brought her up to Vallejo where I'll be spending a couple months outfitting and heading south later this for the warmer waters of Mexico. A bit of a step up from the 27 I held on to for a number of years!

I did notice someone sailing out of San Pedro Bay on an Ericson as I was coming in, anyone on here perhaps?

Looking forward to continue reading through others experiences, ideas and the like. Certainly have a lot to learn!

There are several Ericson owners in the Los Angeles / Long Beach area that are active on this site. And even more Ericsons I see when I go out that I don't recognize from this site. You are going to have to be more specific!

I sold my 27 a couple of years ago, I couldn't imagine the financial strain having TWO holes in the water and a girlfriend. She didn't want to go cruising so I'm down to one boat and the dog, much more manageable and the dog doesn't complain when I spend free time with my other love.

I saw that boat side-tied in Monterey a few years back, and then on Craigslist recently. Nice upgrade! What's its condition? I like those years for the E-38, and I bet that will make a great Mexico boat. What upgrades are you planning? Do you plan to re-bed the keel?

BTW, it's San Pablo Bay, and most of it is about 7' deep!

It's in decent condition. Much better than the one I looked at in Long Beach and setup better too. The keel will need rebeded before taking off, otherwise a hull in GREAT condition. Standing rigging was replaced and upgraded 4 years ago along with a pulled and painted mast so no worries there. Plan to rebed all hardware and stanchions, new electronics (kiss), go through the wiring and fix/replace as required, upgrade cockpit drains... The list goes on! Looking at my options for an arch right now (solar, radar, gps, wifi). A friend in LA is looking at taking his boat to Mexico to have one built, seems like a much more viable option for him. If anyone knows a fabricator in the area or any other options I'm open to ideas.

Congratulations, nice upgrade. As an E38 owner I can tell you that its an ideal boat for two people sailing/cruising. I've never gone all that long on mine but its comfortable, has enough room for stores, etc. When I do get to spend a week plus on mine I often think, "hey, I could get used to this, this boat is just the right size" You'll see....
