signet depth/ knot meter info needed

My E-27 '76 came with a RED LED signet depth sounder. it seems to be working - Maybe. there are two red knobs in front one is for the display brightness, but what is the left one for?

the knot meter also a signet seems irresponsive. it seems to have a cable for the sounder signal and two wires for the 12V which I believe is for the light only correct? this instrument does not move at all.

Thanks i saw that too. I may have to drop them a line. I'll look at the connections when i get back to the boat.
i have a hunch that the red knob is for setting the depth alarm.
