Stuffing Box / Packing Nut Tools.

I have always struggled to tighten and repack my shaft packing using a pipe wrench and a pair of channel locks until a old Sea Dog showed me this old Plumbers tool. It works like a crescent wrench and has a wing nut you tighten to the size of your packing nut and lock nut. Nice short strong handles. The one my old Sea Dog friend had looked a little nicer than these, but hey these were only 10 buck a pop.

Any one ever use them?

They sure are a lot cheaper than the ones that can be found at:

http://www.mahallmarketing.com/adjust_eze.html

These start at 45 bucks and go up from there.

Hope fully I won't have to hire anyone to do this job for me now that I have done it myself. Feels good to have the ones I found on board just in case.

Packing Wrench

A few years back on our previous boat I needed a wrench for the packing, and I wasn't happy with the adjustable types, and all the other wrenches were just too big. I went to a speciality tool place, and they set me up with something similar to what Jeff pictured, but shiny stainless - stubby handle and very narrow. They told me it was a tool intended to adjust something on jack-hammers. Cost about $20.
