It's not always fictional

While the story is a great chuckle, over here in the NW we had a somewhat similar (and real) situation. About 30 or 40 years ago, some nabobs from SoCal were promoting a plan to pipe much of the Columbia River south to the LA area. They said that too much of the water flowing to the Pacific was being "wasted"...
Thankfully, Congress did not agree with the idea. Nowadays the fish have a litttle more clout, too.

Foolin' around

The story's fictictious............................................somebody had to do the April Fools thing!:egrin:
Check out the names........Dr. Doan B. Leevit....Ima Crank, and I do love the part about the new Erie Canal.

The concept has been around for decades. There have been many "serious" proposals regarding diversion of Great Lakes water to the Southwest by pipeline but w/ lake levels flirting w/ record lows it will never come to pass.

Those in need will have to look elsewhere and the picture isn't pretty. The only "artificially maintained" environments should be amusement parks.;) Oh, and some of those existing reservoirs do make for some GREAT sailing.

Might not be so funny

I spent a half a dozen years working with Wisconsin Lake Leaders. The southwest part of the US continues to promote the desire to pipe water from Lake Superior.

As the Northwest already know...once a state agrees sell the water rights, they can not deny the 'natural resources'.

We in the midwest call the north country, God's Country for good reason....and plan on to keep it that way.
