Vacuum Valve

My Universal 25xp has a tee off the hose from the heat exchanger to the exhaust system. It's slung from the top of the engine compartment. The hose from the T runs back to the exhaust port in the hull. Does anyone know what this is for? how is works?

If you are describing what I think you are, then it was Ericson's solution to adding anti-syphon protection to the exhaust system to keep water from being syphoned into the engine. My 1989 E38 had it, and I even called the factory to ask about it, and was given that explanation. I doubt it is as effective as a true anti-syphon U valve, but at least I never had a problem.
