What do you call that thing above the rudder?

So what is the technical term for the extension of the rudder shape just above the rudder as it merges into the hull and ends at the transom. It is on some boats.... Ericsons of 1987 vintage for example. I once thought they were "false skegs" but probably not.

I don't know that there's a specific name for this, maybe "skeglet"?:egrin:
