Just spent four days at Whites landing on Catalina. The scenery is the best I have experienced yet on the Island. No services, no cell signal. I canoed to a nearby empty cove, hiked up a canyon, spooked a bald eagle, (he popped out 10 feet from me) heard the trickle of water and found a natural spring fed stream and followed it high up in the hills, then sat quietly and had lunch while every bird from all around came to drink, including quail. A spot so beautiful the veil felt thin.
There are mooring cans at Whites and wonderful sand anchoring near Hen Rock. Whites is twice as picturesque as Two Harbors, half as busy, four times the fish and wild life (on shore there was a small dung heap made of Buffalo chips), deer wander the cliffs at dusk. Divers I met said the visibility was the best they had seen in their lives. I could go on. But there is no doubt, I shall return.
