This came across my Facebook news feed. Crazy idea?
WIN THIS BOAT!
Siskiwit is a beautiful Cheoy Lee Offshore 40', Siskiwit is capable of handling high seas with grace and appointed to a very high standard. This classic yacht will be awarded to the writer of the best 500 word essay on the topic of "Why I would love to own and maintain SISKIWIT." - See more at: http://www.siskiwit.com/#sthash.Dc8c5pwl.dpuf
I recently saw a bed and breakfast in Maine being sold in similar fashion and thought it was a good idea: This would be a way for an individual to purchase and update a yacht without being saddled with a large boat mortgage or feeling overwhelmed by expenses. Otherwise, keeping up with a ship’s maintenance and or personalization of vessel can push the boat to exceed the range of fair market value ($38,000- $75,000).
A second hope is to make Siskiwit affordable to a greater portion of the population. However, I am not rich and I am not giving my boat away. By requiring a $125 entry fee, I hope to get close to the fair market value while also providing an excellent opportunity for a new boat owner to win a true classic at a price well below any Offshore 40.
A third objective is that through this contest thousands discover the beauty and grace of Phil Rhodes Reliant 41/ OS 40's. To sweeten the Prize even further once this contest reaches 450 qualified entrants, the contest will allocate 80% of all subsequent entry fees into a repair/refit credit escrow with Bennett Brothers Yachts, Wilmington, NC. The repair/refit credit would initially be applied toward any recommendations in the Marine Survey, followed by any winner refit preferences. EXAMPLE If the maximum number of qualified entrants (900) to the Win Siskiwit is reached this would provide the winner with a $45,000.00 yard credit.
