driftless

The name driftless comes from a region of the upper Midwest that remained unglaciated in the last ice-age. The area is free from glacial deposits or "dift", hence, drift-less. The driftless area is centered on the upper Mississippi river from about the Wisconsin-Illinois border to just shy of Minneapolis. I live on the edge of this region, which puts me just over an hour away from Lake Michigan.

It is also the aspiration for our sailing. To drift less, and to sail more.

Driftless also means to be without aim or purpose - to lack in direction.
Thus it is a fitting name for this blog.
