Early into the pandemic shutdown, I came upon a 1973 Ericson 29 (Hull #215), sitting in the water at my friend’s private pier. The owner no longer wanted it, as he moved from boats to planes. So, I paid a small but respectable amount in exchange for the title, the boat, and all of its contents. I’ve been giddy ever since. However, the best thing I can say about it is that it floats! The closer I look, the longer my ToDo list becomes. The boat has issues from bow to stern, yet I am going to optimistically tackle each one incrementally while keeping some comprehensive goals in mind. Those goals are to restore/renovate so it is consistently able to be sailed along the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries; turn it into an office/satellite living quarters with modern electronics; and, convert the engine system to electric with solar panels. If I am successful with these tasks in the next couple of years, my longer-term goal is to sail it to Florida with one of my kids (and probably a mate).
