Refit Log #3 – Electrical Baseline Check

Still working through the boat and starting to focus a bit more on the electrical system to establish a solid baseline.

From what I can tell so far, the system appears mostly original, and I haven’t made any changes yet — just observing and trying to understand how everything is currently set up.

Current observations:
  • Electrical panel appears to be original and in working condition
  • Wiring behind compartments looks functional but not fully organized
  • Batteries are new, but I still need to confirm the full charging setup
  • Shore power is present but not fully tested yet
  • No clear labeling or documentation on prior upgrades (if any)
At this stage, I’m not assuming anything is “good” — just that it’s operational until proven otherwise.

Plan:

My goal is to go through the electrical system methodically before doing any upgrades. Right now, I’m focused on:
  • Verifying battery health and connections
  • Understanding charging sources (alternator, shore power, etc.)
  • Checking fuse/breaker protection
  • Identifying any wiring issues or safety concern's
Questions for those familiar with the Ericson 34-2:

What would you recommend as the very first priorities when evaluating the electrical system on this boat?

Anything specific to this model that tends to need attention early?

I want to make sure I’m building a solid, safe foundation before adding anything new.

I’ll continue documenting each system as I go.

Appreciate any insight.

– Alexis
