New thread so you have one place to go for updates on this migration.

* As of last Monday, January 20th, we opened the site having having taken just under a week for the migration. The migration added a Resources, Graphics and Blogs modules as well as the primary Forums and other ancillary services.
* By Wednesday, Jan 22nd, I had reloaded about 99% of the documentation we had on file at the old site. I still have some new documents to add which should be going up this week. A guidance document on the use of this module will be forthcoming - soon, and will be placed in the root of the directory there.
* By Thursday, Jan 23rd, the Front Page had returned with the model rotation and links to some of the administrative pages. A guidance document on the use of this module will be forthcoming - soon, and will be placed in the root of the directory there.
* On Saturday the 26th, we completed review of about 2,000 images in the Media module - those having come over from the Albums portion of vBulletin. A guidance document on the use of this module will be forthcoming - soon, and will be placed in the root of the directory there.
* Also on Saturday/Sunday, Jan 26-27, we had reopened the Blogging module after discovering some issues there porting over the existing blogs and their images. Because of the lack of a clear vBulletin Blogs-to-XenForo Blogs path, our developer had built a script and the linking images became an an issue because of some irregularities in the code and data. I still have access to the old site - so nothing has been lost. I have been going through the blogs one by one and reattaching the images and then contacting the authors and ask them to check their formatting, etc.
* As of today, Jan 28th, I have about another 120 blog posts to review, and I anticipate having my work done on the Blogs module this week. Like all the others, a guidance document on the use of this module will be forthcoming - soon, and will be placed in the root of the directory there.

So far I would say we're in pretty good shape. Services for backing up the database and its daily maintenance have been re-enabled and are running normally.

If you have any questions on any of this, please feel free to ask here, and I will respond to them in kind. I will update this thread going forward.

Thanks,
//sse

Yeah I am really loving the new site and functionality. Feels much newer and way more modern than the old one. I don't envy you the "manual labor" of individual photo review, but you are probably seeing some good stuff that the rest of us forgot about along the way :)

Blogging

Blogging module has now had it's images reattached, categorized and there is a guidelines document at the top of it explaining the ins-and-outs of blogging.

Media

The 2,000 images contained in the Media section have been nearly all sorted - and the remaining hidden albums contained within the transfer file have been eliminated (as the folder containing them had to be deleted. If you had personal photo albums under vBulletin which you no longer see when you go to Media\Your Content and you wish them to be retrieved, please send me a note and I will pull them out of the old database for you - nothing has been lost.

I will be placing a guidelines document in the Media section which outlines all of this, and of course you are very welcome to discuss it here. Please let me know if you have concerns, thoughts, etc about it.

Resources

Resources will also be getting a guidance document to help organize it and control future filings. Both Resources and Media can have files uploaded to it by users - this will be outlined in the guidance document.

Admin

The User Agreement and other legal documents will soon be added to the Front Page as well.

Let me know if anyone has any questions on any of this.

Thanks,

Many years ago, I learned a bit about human behavior when we lived with ("owned" is not really the right word) two cats for a decade. The rare times when we had to move their food or water dish, they took a while to accept it. They would go stare at the place where the dish was and complain about the change... even tho it was in plain sight nearby. Creatures of Habit, indeed! :)
Finally, they would accept the change.

When changes happen in life, like here, early on I wondered why my dish got moved! :(
Now I like being able to orient the Blog material by subject or author.

So, no questions.... sometimes a puzzled 'Meow', tho...
Regards,
Loren

Yeah, change can be a pain - but often it's a positive in that it forces you to grow and expand. If one considers all the 'high points' in their lives, they were most often proceeded by change.

This new platform offers much the other did not - even small things like bookmarks and filters enable the users to really slice up the information. Also, the other thing is that ten or fifteen years ago we did not have the amount of blogging entries that we do now - so organizing it will be of benefit going forward.

Oh - and I wanted to mention that if anyone sees some organizational aspect of the site that they think would be of benefit ("...you should subdivide this out as it's own topic area"...) please feel free to bring it up. If it helps users find stuff, I'm all ears.

Smilies

So, I am running through all 63 of smiles we accumulated over over the last 20 years, and am coordinating them with the new ones which come from our old vB installation. The older ones are tiny, lower res, while the new xF ones are larger, more extensive, however there are some which are unique to us which will be rebuilt, including:

These guys: :egrin: :esad:, and these guys (for which there is no replacement): , :offtopic: , and of course this beauty: :wife:
There is no schedule for rebuilding these at this time.

Some of them will be retiring, such as :boohoo: however they may end up getting replaced with something else - we'll see.

Basically, if I cannot locate an immediate replacement for the icon, they either get left on as is (as in the five above) or get discontinued (old posts will show - but they're not on the text edit window for selection, though you could just type in the code...). The overall idea is to get new posts using new smiles which are larger and cleaner than the tiny low res old ones. Also, if I don't provide a smilie for the old text you'll just see the code text in old posts which is problematic from a comprehension stand point (as some of you use these - a lot).

Upshot: If you know if an old smilie that you like beside the five above, let me know - otherwise I'll process on and off over the next couple of weeks until they're done.
