Wanted E27 Original Compass, Door handle for head.

Bepi

E27 Roxanne
New E27 owner. She ploughs the seas like a dolphin. Looking for a cockpit compass for 5" hole. I also am looking for door handle and latch bolt assembly for the head. With Minney's closed 2020 is a rough year to buy an old sailboat. While were at it; a couple of stern cowl vents would be good, or a handle for a manual anchor winch, or an analog depth finder for 3" hole, or an analog radar system. A 9 pound bow chaser would also be useful.

Almost everything that is on her works, yet everything needs replaced.
Any and all help is welcome,

Thank you,
Tim "Bepi" Reinard

Hi Tim,
Welcome to the site. Regarding the head door hardware, I’m pretty sure it is just a standard wooden screen door latch.

Vinyl cowl vents are standard at suppliers like Defender Industries. https://www.defender.com/category.jsp?id=2290141&path=-1|6880|2290139

I would think some diameter of stock aluminum tube would fit your manual windlass, with a hardware-store handle. What's the windlass manufacturer?

This is a good forum for old analog instruments as many have replaced them, so you might add those needs to your title, or start another thread.

The windlass is an S/L Highspeed, Aluminum bar stock will work great. Thanks for all the info.

Has anyone ever painted the vinyl cowl vents? I saw a posting on another site recommending you just give them a light sand and spray with Rustoleum. I'd love to have the fancy chrome ones someday but that's probably not in the cards.

Yes, works fine. As I recall I used Brightside, white, which looks very glossy. But I think anything will do.

As we all know, vinyl doesn't last long in sun and mold. I think I will try painting my 2017vinyl winch holsters, which already look 100 years old.

Some narrative from my vent refinish blog entry:
"I did paint each vent with some white vinyl spray in a rattle-can (from the local auto supply store, price about $8.). They will never look new again, but the protective shiny (sort of...) surface looks 100% better. It takes a lot of thin coats to avoid runs and sags, I should note."

That was 8 years ago, and they are about due for a re-paint this year.

I think I have an old analog depth finder and it is probably 3 inches. No transducer though.. PO must have used 5200,000,000 on it and it didn't survive the upgrade. Let me know if you want it.

Also, I'd avoid the Aluminum bar for the windlass... You'll end up bending it sideways the first time you're using standing up and a wave hits, and it'll probably ding and gall in the windlass and become hard to use quickly. I am thinking of building a handle for mine with a short stainless bar attached to a longer carbon fiber pipe. I get the pipe free now that my kid is breaking windsurfer booms...

No doubt your head door is very similar to our E32-2 door as far as hardware.

We recently replaced our complete latch assembly with a storm door system that was a perfect match...in chrome, as most offerings didn’t have chrome like the original.

Here’s (I think) who we got ours from via Amazon Prime.
