I'm guessing this Cal 20 was late for the starting line.

Oy! This is the freeway I drive whenever I go to my boat in San Pedro.

There is a definite possibility that the boat was headed to CBYC in San Pedro, granting that it has the largest Cal 20 fleet in the area.. (I also note that this happened at 5:30 PM on Sunday, FWIW.)

Next time I'm at the marina I'll ask around and see if anyone knows anything about this particular boat.

Odd that the driver did not stop. Maybe he came forward later? Good Grief!

The Admiralty Court will have a field day with this. Clearly that boat was required to yield to the vessels on her starboard side, according to COLREGS rule 15. Crossing so closely in front of the vessel with the camera was decidedly unseamanlike. No “not under command” dayshape was evident, either.

I wonder what would have happened if the trailer tongue hadn’t been pitched up so high as it smashed into the barricade. It’s hard to tell what happened to the keel as the hull went over the barricade.got su

I love how the newspaper writer padded the article with helpful tips from NHTSA about securing cargo. Being short a net, strap, or tarp wasn’t quite the problem here.

I'm not an experienced trailer hauler, but the fact that the front is pitched up so much makes me wonder if the load balance was off. My rube understanding is there should be a slight bias toward weight on the tongue.
