1987 Ericson 32-3 with M-25XP installed hose & wiring hook ups needed.

We hired a mechanic to get our engine running . He removed it , replaced the injectors and transmission .
He re-installed the engine by installing it on new motor mounts leaving the alternator wires, hoses and controls disconnected then he disappeared on us .
We need to ascertain what hoses go where and what wires get hooked up to the alternator and to what studs.
Any help with photographs or diagrams would be most appreciated.

There are a lot of photos on this site of that particular engine. It will help if you post some photos of your engine as it sits, right now. And, photos of "left over parts" arranged neatly.

Have you heard the engine run ? Did you pay him ? I think it may be difficult to do from pictures unless you have a pretty good grasp of marine mechanics. No it's not rocket science but commissioning an engine install is pretty critical so you need to get it right. Maybe find another mechanic ? And yes pictures please.

My 1987 32-3 Prestolite 65 am 8MR2198L alternator and the starter, and the non-original looking glowplug wire looked like these photos.

Dave, He got the engine running . Finding someone to work on sailboat engines in South Jersey is difficult . I’m an aircraft mechanic , if this engine was running I’m pretty sure I can maintain it . My concern is to not hook something up wrong . Thanks , Joe

There are variations in engine and alternators. You should get the model number from the engine (location and format can be discovered by searching this site), and you should get any data from the rear of the alternator. In the resources section of this site, you should be able to download an engine manual to match your model, and that may have adequate detail on the hookup of whichever alternators were available from the factory. Photos of front and rear of engine, of rear of alternator, as well as engine compartment will be tremendous help in figuring this out.

Our '88 Universal M25XP had the "stock" 50 amp Motorola alternator, if that's any help. I did have it rebuilt once.

There's a cumbersome way to do it if you're restricted to an iPhone.
Save the image to Files. If it's a recent model/OS it will probably be saved as a large .heic
In Files, hold a finger on the image til a menu pops up. Scroll down.
Tap "Quick Actions".
Tap "Convert Image".
Tap "JPEG".
Tap "Large".
. . and it will be saved as a smaller size .jpg which will upload to the site. It can also be renamed at that point. If you have the latest OS you can also do some simple cropping and editing with Preview.
This is far easier on a laptop. I use Gimp on my MacBook. It is a free download and works much like Photoshop of several years ago, though much much less intuitive. There are gobs of tutorials online. And it's free.

Here are some shots of my '87 M25xp. Disregard the wires running up to the top of the engine compartment they are connected to a relay that was added for the glow plugs. The alternator is original to the engine.

I recently reattached my engine wiring as a part of replacing the alternator mount on an M25. I followed Christian's Engine Wiring Upgrade Part 2 blog post, and added a grounding bus bar, then replaced the engine harness orange wire that goes to the ammeter in the cockpit instrument cluster, with a 2 AWG wire that connects to the starter's B+ stub, bypassing the ammeter. I was able to find the wiring diagram for the M25 engine harness in the resources section, and that was very helpful. This is how I rewired the alternator on the M25.
