Hello to all, I just recently purchased my first sailboat, an early 70s E29 tiller model. I've been lurking on this greatnforum for a bit while I did research on several boats. I initially wanted to buy a 27 catalina because it was in my budget range but I got this E29 for a great price and I couldn't say no. Pics coming soon

I've had a E29 for a bit over 2 years (my first boat), and it's been a great boat. Looking forward to the pics.

Thanks for the welcome, I'm sure y'all will get tired of all my questions in the maintaince section. I've owned a lot of boats but this is my first with a long stick jammed on the top of it.

Welcome, you made the right choice, much better boat than the Catalina 27! More room as well. You won't have to worry about the "Catalina Smile", when the keel starts separating from the hull as they often do with those bolted on Catalina keels.

Yepper, cool boat man. I like the 29 so much, I bought one. Tough as a fifty cent steak. There's another gentleman on here with a 29 down Georgia way, name of Randy Rutledge. He might be a local source of knowledge to you, he's been around a boat for awhile.

I'm so glad I found this place. Being of Norwegian decent, I really dig these Viking boats. . My oldest son is coming down for the holidays and we gonna try a day trip to motor down the ICW and get this thing a little closer to home and the boat yard. I'm planning on hauling it out ASAP for maintaince and bottom paint. I would really like to build some sort of swim deck/ladder on the stern, I have two little kids and a safe swim deck would go along way with the momma....

Ditto the e29 being awesome. We bought ours 6 months ago and love it more and more. Although it's our first boat so Not much to compare it to. I did tons of research and the 29 seemed to do a lot of things pretty well and it does. Quicker than I had expected too. Although I didn't realize it when we bought it- looking at the other boats in the marina, it's really sweet looking. Much sportier looking than all the Catalina 30s and 27s in there. Somebody told me the only boat I would have been better off buying was a Catalina 27 for sale a few slips over. To me they seem like the toyota camry of boats. Camry is good for a car, but whY be so conservative in boat choice?

Sorry it took so long for me to see your post. Welcome and congratulations. As everyone on this site knows I love the E29 “RUMKIN” it has enough room for two to live on for a short time, as Jimmy Buffett says 24 hours or fifty good years. Our marina has boats up to 34’ and there is nothing there that I feel could replace the Ericson. I trailer my E29 to Mobile each year for a race and home is Weiss Lake in N E Alabama. Get the pictures on the site we all get excited when there is another Ericson and her owner joining the site.

I have a friend that wants me to do work on his boat at St Simon. If I get down that way hopefully I can look you up.

Lol! that's great! I feel the same way about the Catalina Junebug, nice boat, but everybody's got one. Hey Randy, that would be great man, I am about 30 min away from st Simons, so please give me a holler when you get down this way. I used to bounce around your neck of the woods way back years ago... I lived in Villa rica, & Carrollton for a short time after school. Pics coming this morning...if I can get them off of my phone.

Your sliding hatch looks good...was it rebuilt? Close up photos?

I was working on the previous owners other boat and we had some scrap teak, so the hatch got a strip job and cetol finish. I'll get some better pics next time I'm on the boat.
