Hello all, I used a messenger line over the winter when my boat was on the hard. When swapping out, my "quick" connection (still sewn & taped) came off, thus my main halyard came off the mast. Because my boat (E33RH) is fractionally rigged, climbing up to masthead is not an option, thus ended...
A novice request for help.
I have a main sail and a furling jib. My boat did not include a spinnaker.
On the starboard side of my mast at deck level are two holes, each with a label:
Upper hole: Labeled "Spinnaker2" is not in use, and lacks a messenger line
Lower hole: Labeled "Main"...
In the process of new standing rigging for the new-to-me E35 III we put in a new LED tri-color mast-head light to replace the just-barely existing incandescent fixture. The mast wiring was easy (ish) with the conduit and all, but there is no wire for the the running-lights part of the tricolor...
I've searched around and haven't had any luck finding other discussions on this subject. The toggles on m E25 are 3 1/2 inches long and 1/8 inch thick. For some reason or another they have 5/16 inch pins. The tangs for the shrouds, on the other hand, have 3/8 inch pins.
At any rate, like many...
I've taken my mast down to replace the rigging and other worn out items. I have a mystery part that I don't know how to identify. I have a '73 E27 with what I understand is a Sparcraft masthead. There are two bolts that run through the masthead that have a fiberglass or ceramic sleeve over them...
Please help solve my confusion.
I have switches in my fuse box for a masthead light and bow light. Neither do anything at the moment. But both of them have wires coming off of them. I haven't yet tracked down where they go.
There is a light (non-functional) 2/3 of the way up the front of...
I believe that my halyards have jumped the sheaves. I was trying to change jibs and it got stuck halfway down. I convinced the admiral to go up the mast (she was NOT too pleased) to take a look at it. She did not go all of the way up, but was within arms reach. I know that the sheaves are 2 sets...
Hi,
I have a NEW Standard Horizon masthead unit for a WS1 readout. 6 pin male plug. $75.00 + mail
Also a Datamarine Knotmeters: a 3200 speed/log/totalizer with two S100KL units. The transducer is good. They all can be networked together with BNC connector. Everthing works and the gauges are...
Having raised and lowered the mainsail multiple times and having been to the top of my mast several times now, install windex, replace masthead light, etc. I knew the aluminum halyard sheaves were frozen and fused to the masthead. The wire halyards just slide over the frozen sheaves. Changed...
After a lighting strike that took out VHF antennea, stereo, fuel pump, bilge pump and (expensive) LED anchor and cabin lights, we've been told that the wheels for the halyards at the top of our mast (Shivs? sp) need replacing. Anyone know where to get them? We have a friend with a "mast crane"...
is this an original factory setup ? to me the sheaves are really close together and one side is already cutting the mast. as i was the one who did the winching and my wife was taking pictures and checking things a cant really say if there were any welded holes from the past
thanks Paul :egrin...
I hope someone can help. While I realize my Isomat spar with its NG-1 masthead are not original to Ericson it is what I have. When I replaced my wire/rope halyard a couple of years ago with all rope I ran
it the same way as the original was. The wire came out a small opening at the base of the...
For main halyard. Diameter of sheave is 2.75" and pin is 3/8.
I've scoured the web, called places I know about, but can't find that size.
I'm hoping to find one with ball or needle bearings instead of just bronze insert.
Any clues where to look?
Folks,
While the mast is down I am installing mast step rigging plate and replacing halyards from wire to ropes. I know that this had been asked and answered, however here it goes again:
Original sheaves in the mast box are OD 2 3/4 with ID 3/8 and are in a bad shape. Each halyard is using two...
I am a new E35 Mk III owner. My masthead light is out. If you have changed such a bulb yourself in the past while the mast is up, I would love to hear what is at the top, so I can maximize my preparation and avoid too many research trips.
Thanks Gibbo
I want to replace the anchor light on my 1990 Ericson 38 with an LED. Before I go up the mast does anyone know what bulb is likely to be there so I can buy the right LED replacement before going aloft?
I have to troubleshoot a mast head light on a 1987 E34. My partner is willing to run me up the mast to inspect the bulb but I thought it would be cool to have the correct bulb with me when I go up, in case it really is a bad bulb. Is there anyone out there who has replaced a masthead bulb and...
The best of the season to everyone.
This fall, after putting the boat away for the winter, I discovered that the axle for the main halyard sheave had broken at the stem attached to the tab. The sheave bore is slightly out of round indicating it has been unserviced for quite a while. The seats...
I had all my in-mast wiring replaced this spring, and subsequently my Datamarine wind speed and direction instrument does not work. The yard claims that my masthead transducer is at fault. Before I decide whether to overhaul my old transducer or purchase a new one, I would like to borrow someone...
Attached is a picture of my e25 masthead and the sheaves and spacers contained within. The boat still has the original wire/rope halyards. A previous owner must have added the extra (white) spacer shown -- causing a very tight fit. The sheaves were obviously not rotating as can be seen by the...
I just received an 1970 E23 I #139 (according to the title) to refurbish. It's not in too bad of shape but needs work. I would appreciate any helpful information or comments concerning the masthead, it is not in good shape.
We need to modify the masthead to fly a spinnaker. There are three existing jib halyards: one dedicated to the roller furling, one to the port, and one to the strbd. We are planning to pull the mast and are considering if we should attach some kind of vale with a block outside of everything to...
Have any E29 owners undertaken replacing thier masthead? Upon close inspection of mine, all cotter pin holes are elongated, especially the one for the forestay, which makes me think the metal may be fatigued from 30 years of flogging. I'm getting ready to replace all my standing rigging, which...
Hi all,
I am looking for a masthead unit for a Datamarine wind speed/ apparent wind indicator. Hoping someone has an idea of where one can be purchased at a reasonable price, or even better, someone has a box of old instruments they would like to convert to boat bucks.
Thanks...
I am in the process of refurbishing a 1970 E-30 and have dropped the mast.
I would appreciate any help with where to find replacement sheaves. There are 4 of them, two smaller ones the same diameter, and then two larger ones of different diameters.
I have an 1979 Ericson 29. The mast head sheave's (4), between 3 plates had a plate with some backing coming off. I re-glued the backing, and now the unit is two wide to easily fit back in the mast-head.
The sheave's do not turn because of this.
Question:
1. Where can I get...
E 32-2 and the spinnaker block gets caught on the headstay. I would like to install a bail up there and was wondering if anyone did it and what is involved. Thanks.
I have a 1970 Ericson 29. Has anyone managed to snake a new cable to the masthead using the existing internal PVC conduit, without pulling the mast? Any hints, ideas or pictures would be appreciated. -kjs
My DM W/S cup bearings are shot. I know there has been several threads about places to get them repaired, but was curious of anyone has upgraded their DM instrumentation with some things else and where did the place the actual gauges if they did replace them. I have a 87 E34 with W/S. Apparent...
