1972 E 35-2
Before I have again if anyone knows the exact proper nomenclature for this artifact on our boats I would appreciate the right name for it.
If I say the word hatch everyone thinks the entry hatch, if I say port light everyone thinks it’s one of the windows. It is the two overhead...
My opening portlights look like the Lewmar standard portlight, but dimensions don't match. The length of mine are 13.75 - height is 7.5. Any suggestions on replacemnt or overhaus parts? Particularyly interested in gaskets and screens, though I can probably repair those. Thanks.
Does anyone have any instructions from Lewmar regarding installation of the "Old standard" portlights, found in my 1990 Ericson 28? I have one non-opening portlight with a leak that shows up through 2 screws, it may be the horizontal external seam that needs re-sealing. How to re-seal it and...
Hi all,
I wanted to get your take on this. The E27 I just got has lots of gel coat chipping around the portlights. Attached is the best picture I have on this at the moment. The chipping extends for about 2-6 inches out from the perimeter around each portlight, especially the larger ones...
Howdy all,
This is my first post, so please bear with me! I just purchased a '73 Ericson 27 ... to put it mildly, some areas have lots of "deferred maintenance." The hull, rigging, interior, and outboard were all fine (had it surveyed), but there are a few items that need some help (I got...
Dear All,
I am a proud owner of a great 79 Ericson 27. I do have to re-bed the port lights and I am thinking about to put new frames in. I do have two questions to the forum (i) any ideas and experience on cleaning and re-bedding port lights and (ii) any suggestions/resources where to...
I hope you all will bear with me... There are many threads on this site on this subject, and I've been involved with them. Also, most of the info gleaned from those threads have been immensely helpful. If this info is way old news, my apologies, and disregard!
I was describing the...
I removed the starboard rear portlight, in which the PO had replaced the glass with Plexiglas. I had a local glass company cut a piece of 1/4" laminate glass and then sealed it in the frame with clear Silicone. The old gasket would not fit the glass properly, so the Silicone made sense.
I now...
Well, removing one of my fixed portlights this weekend proved to be more difficult than expected. I had no problems last year removing the original opening portlights. The fixed ones are fairly flimsy though and got a little bent up after carefully working on one for about 2 hours. I can...
I recently installed 6 new opening portlights in my '85 35-3 from Bomar. I feel I did a pretty good job bedding them and some professionals I had look at them say they look good and should not leak but they do. I found a drop of water on one of the dogs after some moderate rain last week. I...
Since direct replacements for the large portlights on older Ericsons do not seem to be available, has anyone glassed a material around the perimeter to fit something smaller? What material did you use, and how did you do the glass so it does not look shabby when you paint over it? My whole...
Hey Guys, I seem to remember a thread by someone who replaced his leaking portlights with either smoked safety glass or lexan. The portlight above the galley is ill fitting and although I have taken it out and resealed it the small leak continues. I thought that I might replace all of them the...
The rubber gasket material on the portlights have shrunk/contracted as shown. Is this just a matter of age (they still feel resilient to the touch)?
Although they aren't obviously leaking, I may as well replace the gaskets while I'm fixing the other things, if someone can point me to a...
I was pretty disappointed to find out how the aluminum BOMAR portlights along the sides of my cabin were designed when I took the first one off the 'Project a couple weeks ago. My dismay turned to determination and I have been thinking about whether to re-use them, how increase the sealing...
Is there a source for relacement hatch lenses closer than Select Plastics in CT? The new Good Old Boat magazine (July/Aug.) recommends replacing portlight lenses with acrylic (Plexiglass) rather than Lexan. Not "Bulletproof" like Lexan, but does not craze. Any experience with this? Dick Elliott...
I am looking to replace my gaskets on my portlights and not sure where to begin my search. Does anyone know the make/model of the portlights so I can purchase some new gasket material??
Thanks,
Randy
Ok All...
Counting on you guys for help on this one. I've been working on rebedding my portlights (as has been previously mentioned) and was "unhappy" upon returning to the boat on Sunday after a big rain. Still having a good deal of leakage. I'm posting a picture to show where it's...
Hallo,
for some time my Lewmar portlights -old Standard size 4- have been leaking
and the lenses are totally scratched; same for the other 2 portlights (right and left)somewhat larger and aft of size 4 which I understand are custommade by Lewmar especially for Ericson.I replaced all four...
A couple of my portlight frames are just about eaten through by corrosion, does anyone know a source for replacements for the large ones?
If I need to get a machine shop to make them up, any recommendations on improvements to the originals for better seaworthiness?

Fixed Portlight replacement,
The four fixed ports are in need of repair or replacement. Has anyone found a good match for the orginals? I have contacted Pacific Sea Craft, Lewmar, Bomar, Minny's & Select Plastics. Pacific Sea Craft mentioned Mark's Plastics. Still waiting for replies from the...
I would like to replace all my portlights, including the larger angled rectangular back aft. Has anyone found a product line with similar dimensions.

Does anyone know where to get replacement screens for an E30-1 portlight? The ones I have (which are torn) say "Vetus" on them with the number "82" under it, but I can't find them in the Vetus.com online catalog. The screens are 10"x4 5/8".
TIA,
Rob
I have an 87' 34 and over the last several months have noticed that my portlights are begining to leak. Has anyone undertaken the task of repacking both the fixed and open portlights or had it done preofessionally? Before undertaking such a task I would like to hear if there are any gotchas or...
